Self-hosting FTW!

Last time I wrote in abstract what I wanted to do when ditching Big Tech. In this post, I'm writing specifically about how I ditched Big Tech services.

Oh dear, I broke a hard drive

My Unraid home server has, for the longest time, been a hodge-podge of old hard drives that I've combined to make my array. I started off with a 1TB, 2TB and 4TB drive in the array, salvaged from old PCs and consoles and put to work storing my data.

I am altering the deal — pray I don't alter it any further

Tech companies have always been on normal one, but in the last decade or so they've been on an especially normal one.

I remember when I bought an email app for my various Apple devices. I think I paid about £5 for the iOS version, and then £20 for the Mac version. I might be wrong because I can't find any invoices or receipts going back that far, but the point still stands: I paid something for it.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog! I’ve set this up solely to test out Git. I have very little programming experience, and I’ve never used Git before, so I thought I’d try using it to set up a static site using Jekyll. It beats my personal site doing nothing else, I guess. Update: Turns out Jekyll wasn’t for me. I’ve switched to Publii. I’m still using Markdown, but I couldn’t quite work out themes in Jekyll. Oh well.
